2024 National Budget Analysis – Ghana
The 2024 budget’s theme is Pursuing Growth & Development Within a Stable Macroeconomic Environment, alias the “Nkunim” (Victory) Budget. It outlines the government’s comprehensive strategy for achieving fiscal consolidation, sustainable economic growth, currency stability, and debt reduction within three years.
The overarching policy framework streamlined to achieve stability, growth, and recovery will look at:
- the development of a macroeconomic stability and fiscal consolidation framework
- the execution of the 5-year Strategic Plan which would focus on export improvement, value addition, agriculture, industry, tourism, domestic and international investments, etc
- creating a new Debt Sustainability plan through the completion of the Debt Restructuring Programme
- fiscally responsible and judicious execution of the $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout program
- investment into the democratic ecosystem to ensure peaceful, fair and transparent elections in 2024
- revision and commitment to the completion of existing capital projects (LEAP, PFJ 2.0, etc) to stave off revenue leaking through the cracks via the piling up of abandoned projects and the introduction of import waivers in the local industry to increase productivity and production
